Blocs 4.2 Beta Build 1

Hey everyone, here is the first beta of Blocs 4.2. This release comes with a range of major new features, we recommend you read this carefully before you use the initial betas of Blocs 4.2.

Bootstrap 5 :rocket:
It’s here, but please remember the framework is actually still in beta. We have a feeling the official release may happen during the beta testing for Blocs 4.2, however, until then we do not recommend using Bootstrap 5 for live production sites.

Migration :dizzy:
You can migrate up to Bootstrap 5 but not backwards, so as this is a super early beta only migrate with backup projects and again don’t migrate and push to production, it’s way to soon for that. :no_entry:

To migrate, open a Bootstrap 4 project and head to project settings, you will see a new framework dropdown, change this and you are good to go!

Javascript Rewrite :writing_hand:
Almost all of the javascript Blocs generates for light boxes, special navigations, scrollFX etc has all been completely rewritten in vanilla JS so regardless of whether your project uses bootstrap 4 or 5, please test every feature of the site before you move it into production. It’s a big rewrite and there may be some issues in these early stages, that will break functionality once exported.

JS Updates :face_with_monocle:
Jquery and the lazyload javascript have both been updated to the latest versions.

Localisation :fr: :de: :es:
Bonjour, Hallo, Hola! Our none native English speaking users will be happy to hear Blocs now speaks French, German and Spanish. You may notice a bad translation, some text cropping or another little interface oddity. Please let me know if you spot something and it’ll be fixed up in no time!

CSS Selectors
For those interested in the new CSS selector support, you can now add these manually to classes, below is a list of newly support selectors.

  • :first-letter
  • :first-line
  • :selection
  • :first-child
  • :last-child
  • :first-of-type
  • :last-of-type
  • :placeholder

Solis :sunny:
You didn’t see that coming! :facepunch: I know many have wondered what is happening with Solis, and you may notice there have been some fixes added to 4.2 for Solis. Work on Solis has already started up again and we hope to have version 1.0.7 beta 1 of Solis out late next week. V1.0.7 will fix a bunch of issues and also add full support for Boostrap 5 Blocs projects.

Summary :grinning:
Please don’t be put off using this version of Blocs, just remember there are a lot of big changes in this release, so only use it for none critical, none production work, at least for the first few betas anyway.

Have a great weekend and thanks so much for your continued support! :beers:

Download Blocs 4.2 Beta Build 1

Don’t forget to hard reload your browser if the beta doesn’t show!

Hi @Norm, Not sure if its a server issue at your end but downloading with 8kb/sec. You might want to fix a little typo :upside_down_face: :

Yikes! I’ll fix that

The downloading speed?

The download speed maybe throttling due to people downloading.

You are just one hard working man. You’ve put this all together for us! Blocs Rocks! No you Rock Norm! Thank you so much for taking good care in maintaining the best OS X web builder.

Great news, a white night is coming  thanks Norm

Download speed was fast for me and only took a few seconds to complete.

I couldn’t resist so I opened a BS4 project I am working on and converted it to BS5 then saved it under a different name to leave the original unaffected. Most of it looks the same. A few obvious differences are apparent:

  1. Links have suddenly acquired lines underneath that were not present before.

  2. The mobile sidebar menu was previously dark transparent when opening and now it’s just transparent.

  3. The links in the dropdown menu items are suddenly just a white void and text only appears on hover. When I do hover over that area the wrong links are showing, so it looks like menus and links would need to be rebuilt.

  4. The carousel is no longer auto advancing to the next slide and has to be manually forwarded.

The overall appearance is fairly good, however there are clearly glitches and changes that will need to be edited, so as @Norm suggested only play with this at the moment and if you need to get any serious work done stick with BS4.

@Malachiman and I have seen that sticky nav isn’t working in 4.2.

Sticky nav is broken? In all projects? BS4 and 5?

@Norm yes it is for me. Sticky nav is broken on a migrated project and a new project. (error attached is from a new project)

I have layout and font size issues. I did migrate a semi-complex project for fun.

I’ll look deeper over the next couple of days and let you know.

ps. The carousel initially took a long to start transitioning between slides, but it seems to be working now, which is weird. The first slide is sluggish / bigger delay though.

Ah ok, looks like something is tripping up the sticky nav JavaScript. Feel free to DM me to project

Try a new project… you can experience it right there

“Wrap Bric in div container function.”

Thats a handy feature, cool.

Sidebar special menu has its background colour being over-ridden for some reason. Even if you add the subclass.

It has doubled up the class for some reason here (new project)

UPDATE: Looks like this .nav-special.collapsing is killing it with the background: none!important

I tried combining JS and CSS on an exported project. The chevron arrow in a hero bloc turned into a square, but more scarily the burger menu didn’t open at all. I was using easy burger and had to remove the particles bric to unblock the menu.

I can put particles back and have it all working, but I have to disable JS combine for it to work as expected. This is BS4.

Yeah combine has potential to break stuff but I’ll make it more reliable.

Btw you can reorder JS items in page settings, you don’t need to delete/re-add

Unless your attachment is in the Global Area, then its with project attachments.

Particles is a page attachment and only present on the home page inside the hero bloc. It is the only attachment on that page, so there is nothing to recorder. Easy burger is a project attachment.
