Buggy Versions?

Buggy Versions?
Since the last two updates (I’m on 6.1.6) I’m really very disappointed. Blocs seems very buggy to me and is really dragging me down at the moment.

I create pages, there is a bloc with a background image, an image in the middle. So far everything is fine. At some point there are problems with images. I want to crop an image to 1:1 and it doesn’t work. If I delete the image, Blocs crashes and all!!!, really all images on all pages are mixed up. This has happened to me for the third time today and after 4 hours of swapping images I’m really fed up.

What could it be?

Sorry to hear you are having issues with Blocs.

Would you say the majority of the issues are related to image assets?

Are you using the built in image editor?

Also how are you deleting the image?

So yes, there are problems that only occur with the images. As I said, I’ve only had this since the last two versions.

I was able to determine the following:

  1. some images cannot be edited. You can neither correct the size via the automatic image reduction, nor can you change it manually via the built-in editor. Only if you rename the image when saving it does it sometimes work. However, this leads to a lack of clarity.

  2. deleting images can lead to a crash. I could not determine when or which problems exist. The application sometimes crashes when you delete a file by right-clicking on the image and deleting the file, sometimes it crashes when you delete several images.

  3. when the application crashes, all images, really all images on all pages are swapped. This makes it really annoying because you save, the application crashes and you restart the application and load the saved (actually error-free) file and still all the images are mixed up. I just can’t understand that.

  4. when I open the saved file on the iPad, the problem also exists.

Thanks that’s super helpful.

How are your images named? Are you taking care to name them before you ad them to Blocs or do they have random numerical names?

The names of the pictures are different. Sometimes without special characters, sometimes with special characters. Images with % characters could not be edited until I renamed them in the app. However, it didn’t matter what the file was called. As I remember it, the crashes also occurred with normally named files. I have two types of images in particular: jpg and png. However, I have never had these problems in other Bloc versions before.

I’ve not had this issue at all with images….maybe send your project in to @Norm to see why this is happening.

If it was something that everyone’s getting then I can understand, but maybe it could be your Mac? OS? Or if you’ve got anything else going on on your website.

Good luck and I’m sure it’s something that can be easily resolved :+1:

Edit,

Yeah as @AdamNotEve has mentioned below, the character could be the issue - try changing % to a number.

I’ve had problems with images in other software where it didn’t like the characters in the file name, mainly symbols like %! etc. Maybe Blocs could add a fail safe and when images are added that contain them, it prompts you to remove special characters before it can import them?

Just jumping on this one here. Only yesterday I tried to move a hero image (image background) from central to right aligned and it woudn’t stick. Haven’t tried again yet.
t’s only me rejigging my site, so no real urgency in the matter, and it’s using my main image I’ve used for about 4 years, but using latest Blocs.

Yes, that would be good. However, I can certainly understand that this can cause problems and the program can crash. I’m just surprised that all the images on all the pages are swapped. And that even in a previously saved file. Maybe I’ll delete the application completely and reinstall it…

Just try removing the % and replacing with a number first.

Yeah it’s very strange behaviour and of course I will look to find the cause and fix any issues. However, finding it may take time, if you have repeatable steps to get the issue, that would help me get it fixed faster.
