How can I create a state where nothing is selected?

I’ve always wondered about this, but in this app, there is always something selected. How can I create a state where nothing is selected? When I try to change the color and duplicate the original color, the selected area gets replaced by the color I’ve chosen from the palette. If I could just deselect everything, I feel like it wouldn’t change.

Yep, that’s one of my dislikes also, not being able to deselect everything so nothing selected.

@Norm Yes, that would be helpful, I’ve often thought that too.

I feel that there should be a feature where pressing the escape key clears all selections. Basically, I find that this app has many interfaces that confuse users.
