Local fonts - Google or Local Embedded

Hi all, I’m a long term user of Google Fonts, and pull them in from Google Fonts in the usual way. Many many moons ago, I had a situation where I used a font that was local on my system, displayed ok, but when viewing the published page on a setup that didn’t have that font installed it displayed fallback. Therefore have used Google fonts since and just stuck to doing that.

Just wanted to check with Blocs, if I use a local font it becomes embedded as part of the published site? I’m assuming it does, but just want to check so I can use local and not have a call out to Google.

The only times (since that many many moons ago time) where I have embedded I’ve converted to WOFF. If Blocs using and publishes the local font as an asset does it still retain a TTF or OTF file type ot does it convert natively to WOFF.

Thanks

Local fonts are included as part of your site when you export it. This means they should show correctly when you visit the site (from any device) as the page will load the font resource from your server rather than Google.

Blocs does not give you access to system fonts for this reason. It looks great on your Mac but if the font is not installed on a visitors device, it will not display correctly.

Also make sure you familiarise yourself with the install process for local fonts. Take note that you install fonts in groups not individual files.

That’s great @Norm thanks for clarifying that, it’s really helpful.
