Mac: Moving an image from Asset Catalog to Preview.app

This is a Mac solution:
(It works in Golden Gate, hopefully in earlier systems too)

One frustrating issue with Blocs is the inability to retrieve images from the Assets manager. You’d think there’d be an option to export or reveal images in assets but if there is I’ve never found it or read about it. I’ve recently discovered a method to copy an image from Asset Manager into Preview.app.

  • Open the Asset Manager

  • Right click on image

  • Share…
at the bottom of the share menu there is Copy… this copies the image to the system clipboard.

  • Open Preview.app

  • File Menu: New From Clipboard.

As it’s in the clipboard I guess this will work with any other editor too.

(Yes, you could also export the site to a folder and retrieve the images but sometime this is easier when all you want to do is a quick edit.)

And frankly, being told I have to pay to upgrade to plus to edit an image does not make me want to upgrade, quite the opposite in fact.

Hey @Marvin,

Blocs Plus adds an Image Editor, which allows you to filter, crop, resize etc, so it’s a worth while feature if you want that functionality in the Blocs design environment.

Another Solution
But for your scenario, there is another little trick. Open your project in Blocs and then head to the following Location on your Mac and you will find all the project assets.

/Application Support/Blocs 6/tempAssetStorage/ExternalDrives/emdedded-blocs-assets/

I hope that helps.

@norm It used to be possible to drag and drop images directly from Blocs back into the Finder. Unfortunately, this no longer seems to work, and I really miss this functionality.

For me, this is quite a significant limitation, especially when working with images that I want to reuse outside of Blocs. At the moment, I have to use workarounds such as sending the images to myself by email just to get them back onto my Mac.

It would be great if the previous drag and drop functionality could be restored in a future update.
