So if I’m reading this right, it sounds like it may work for me quite well.
I run a number of different courses, each with their own set of pre-reading and documents.
So if I was running 10 courses I could create 10 sub folders each with their own documents inside. I can create a username and password for each sub folder and give that to the course candidates to download their relevant docs.
So a couple of questions,
Any limitations on how many subfolders you can have
Any limitations of how many users you can have
Where on the server do you create the folder and then sub folders?
If already running volt will there be a conflict of you are creating more users? As they are limited amounts at present?
so if i had 10 courses each with their own subfolder, i wouldn’t be able to issue 10 usernames and passwords that allowed them to access their own folder.
Hi @Jannis,
I just tested the integration with Volt.
The tool is great ! But … This integration is not functional when adding images with Volt ?
After loading an image into the folder _cms/media/ via Repository Manager, it was not visible in Volt’s image choice window. The subfolders either.
Did I miss something, or will it be possible later?
Thanks in advance for the answer and have a good weekend.
I have a job due to start soon for a private health specialist, who wants the ability to upload and update both PDF and Word files herself on a site. I planned on building the site with Volt and Repository Manager looks like the only available option in Blocs that can manage this with a simple CMS. It should also avoid any GDPR issues that might have arisen using third party solutions like DropBox.
The client has written some other notes that will require some clarification, but it sounds like this should be a good case use for Volt and Repository Manager together.
I have had a few times where clients have said - they want to add an updated PDF with prices etc on themselves on the website. I guess this is still not possible in Volt - but yeah using the Repository Manager this might be possible. I would like the adding of a PDF to be very seamless and easy like adding a photo!
I tried uploading a PDF the other day through Volt and it didn’t work like you suggest adding the file as simply as a photo.
We may find a way of adding a PDF or Word doc, but we then have to establish how they will appear on the website. In this case it looks like the client expects to see a graphic icon on the page and then click the graphic to download the file or open it in another tab. I will contact her now though to ask for clarification on what what she really wants to happen. Clients sometimes think we are clairvoyant and know what they want, even when they are not sure themselves.
At the moment the client has just sent me a word doc with an explanation you see in the attachment. She wants the ability to change the files herself and for visitors to download them.
In another part of the page she mentioned zoom invites, YouTube videos, forms and editable popups so I want to her to be really clear on what is expected here.
This is always the problem when the client is not good with computers. I used to think it was just older clients but now I am seeing it with younger ones as well. It’s not just working a CMS, many struggle to even set up an email account.
I am also finding this - so many people just know how to use either an iPhone or Android phone and majority know how to use tablets and thats as far as its going.
The domination of handheld devices for general use and adding applications like email automatically when you set up a phone for me has taken away some basic knowledge.
Snapchat and Facebook is no problem! have times moved on that much that even general computer knowledge is an old concept! I might be wrong…
