Sorry I missed your last reply! I stopped getting notifications from the forum for some reason in the past few days.
What I can assure you is that I’m diligently working to ensure that incremental updates, such as those from version 2.0 to 2.7, don’t disrupt the existing projects. If you’ve started from version 1.0 to 1.9, the process might be slightly more intricate due to the color changes. However, most of the updates should still function seamlessly, even in your situation (which, I must admit, is not a typical scenario).
Yes, if you add a section that’s included in the new version and has an updated class, it will update your project unless you’ve already edited and customized it to your liking. In that case, it will follow your edits.
In essence, the most important versions are the major releases (1.0, 2.0, or 3.0). I spend a few days or, at most, weeks releasing an incremental .X update, but I spend many months working on the major updates. For instance, I’m already working on the 3.0 version of the library, even though I haven’t released the 2.8 and 2.9 versions yet. I want to ensure that the 3.0 version has the same foundation as the 2.0 version, so there won’t be any new issues for your setup either.
In any case, thank you for your feedback; it’s very much appreciated.
Hi @Eldar, no worries at all and please don’t take any of my feedback as a dig at the Minimalist Library or any of the other great templates that you’ve created. You’re doing a great job and I’m amazed at how quickly you keep pumping out the updates and new products.
My comments were more for a bigger conversation of all Libraries/Templates across the board within Blocs in hopes that Norm is following along and can take note.
Anything is possible with software, but there’s always constraints (time, effort, technology, etc.) so I’m not advocating for a solution tomorrow but having this on the radar would be helpful as this is a huge gap in using Libraries/Templates.
P.S. I really appreciate all your work on ensuring that newer versions don’t cause issues with existing project using prior versions. I know this kind of work can be very time intensive and is something that is thankless, as no one generally sees it.
No, I’m actually incredibly grateful for this conversation. Things like this are usually what I spend weeks and weeks thinking about alone, and your feedback could be very useful in the future! Keep it coming!
If anyone encounters any issues with installing the new BEXPAC, please let me know. One user is experiencing freezing during the installation, and I want to understand if this is a widespread bug or an isolated incident.
The new Minimalist Library in BEXPAC form is awesome and a huge improvement in user experience over the prior methodology. Great job @Eldar and many thanks @Norm for laying the foundation in Blocs to make this possible.
The version 3.0 is almost ready. I’ve already prepared a substantial update and plan to further incorporate several highly beneficial features. However, as a major version update, I’m also open to making significant global changes if deemed necessary.
If you’re a Minimalist Library user with specific feature requests or feedback, please share them with me here or privately. I don’t like to make big changes to the library between major versions, so now is the time to ask for important (maybe even crazy ambitious) stuff
Removing unused css and js. Keeping the overall load as small as possible. I do understand caching. But a smaller file no matter how you stack it up is going to be faster, AND the initial load time will always benefit.
A comment would be how it makes looking at the extensions quite a challenge because there are so many. It’s probably a Blocs thing, rather than Minimalist Library, but some kind of grouping, or a rensming of all the extensions to group them together?
Yes, this is always my priority! I was already able to further reduce the file size by 20% (in addition to 50+% during the upgrade from 1 to 2 version). And, I will continue to improve this! I think even version 2.9 is amazingly fast, and 3.0 will only be better
Maybe you missed it, but with version 2.8 and 2.9, we have already switched to using the new BEXPAC feature, which is basically what you are suggesting. Just one file to install and update the library. It’s awesome!
Eldar, I don’t currently use the library so this question may come off like a noob. Is there a style manager? I get the concept of all the structure brics–just drag and drop. But do I have to change each piece to create a cohesive design or is there a way to globally do this? In case you can’t tell I’m basically becoming lazy the older I get. I want simplicity and the ability to just journal and build internal links. I simply don’t need or want the hassle of playing with code or time invested in design if there is a shorter process available. Global or master pages are king in my world. All pages are essentially the same just different content. Very much a traditional blog like environment.
That’s great, thanks, I’ve just had a look and noted the Pacs in the drop down, and the Minimalist Library 2.8 its in there. But in the list are all of the minimalist blocs, e.g. Call to Action and so on. How do I ret rid of those from the Extension Manager?
