Webp images not showing in preview

I’m using the latest Blocs and MacOS Catalina, and none of the webp images I’m using are showing in preview (but works fine in the browser preview). Any trick to fix this?

It’s all in the documentation why.

Because it’s not a supported file format?

Pretty sure you need Big Sur as a minimum.

Maybe. The official Blocs documents don’t mention webp as a supported file format though. I’ve installed WebPQuickLook and they’re previewing fine in finder.

It’s listed here:

The real problem here is Apple. If you look at browsers like Chrome or Firefox they have enabled support for WebP and AVIF. In the case of Safari file support is not handled by the browser, but the OS itself and Apple has been slow to embrace these changes.

I have been a big proponent of having Blocs adopt these modern alternatives to Jpeg, but there is the issue of support in Safari, so for the foreseeable future I think a fallback option is needed.
