Blocs for iPad vs. Mac. How similar?

I’m a complete newbie to Blocs, and I’m using it exclusively on an iPad Air 13. For the past 18 years I used Rapidweaver to manage my business site on Macs. Now I’m retired and RW has lost some luster (as discussed on other posts here recently) and learning Blocs seemed like a good use of my brain! It’s clear that nearly all users that post here are working on Macs. What I’m curious about is how similar are the two platform versions? As an example…do extensions available for the Mac version work on the iPad version too? Or are iPad users just out of luck? I’m guessing that templates and possibly Brics work on either platform, but I could be wrong. I know some of the tutorial information seems not to apply in the same way from Mac to iPad versions. I’m trying to get some understanding of how much of what I’m reading on the forum applies to Blocs on iPad, and how much doesn’t cross over.

Thanks for your replies.

Hello and welcome to Blocs community,

I don’t know if you saw this already, but I have a free ‘Introduction to Blocs for iPad’ course, which will answer many of your questions.

Also, I just bought the iPad Pro M5 last week (after using the 2018 iPad Pro for 7 years), and I am planning to use it a lot with Blocs as well. I will try to make new videos covering Blocs for iPad, as I believe iPadOS 26 will give a new push for the whole iPadOS ecosystem.

Eldar, thanks for replying. I’ve already been through your intro to Blocs on iPad. Very nicely done, as all your courses appear to be. Having worked with a lot of video over the years I can appreciate the work, knowledge and skill it took to make all of those courses!

I agree that IOS 26 is going to change a lot of minds when it comes to using iPads for development work. For me, in some ways, working on an iPad is so much easier and faster than it used to be.

Right now I need to learn the basics of page construction with Blocs. Simple foundational stuff like how to construct page elements and edit them, move them around and tweak. Coming from Rapidweaver in the past I’ve got to “unlearn“ a bit. Which also means I need to learn Blocs little idiosyncracies…like why Preview doesn’t work all that well. And is there a way to fix that problem on an iPad the same way as on a Mac? What port should I use if not 8080…etc.?

As they said in Field of Dreams, “if you make they will come“. I’m ready to buy right now!

There are currently differences between both versions, but with each update to Blocs for iPad and Blocs for Mac we are gradually getting closer to feature parity.

However, our aim right now is to match feature for feature with the standard release of Blocs for Mac. We currently have no plans to bring some of the Blocs Plus features to Blocs for iPad (Wordpress Theme Development being the main one we are leaving on the Mac for now).

The Blocs Academy has various videos for the iPad version, not all videos are offered for both versions but many are.

You will see a Mac | iPad selection option at the top right above the video if you visit in a browser. If you visit the Blocs Academy via the iPad App, the iPad videos are auto selected by default.

Here is an example of a Blocs Byte video that has both Mac and iPad versions.

As for the knowledge base, as you mentioned some of the screen shots are of Blocs for Mac, but you will likely find the same options are available in Blocs for iPad.

All Blocs add-ons work across Mac, iPad and iPhone, the only features Blocs for iPad currently lacks regarding add-ons is:

• Support for the new Pacs files (which have only been recently added).
• In-app updates for all custom Brics.

But that will be changing soon.

I have your ticket regarding preview mode and will follow up on that directly with you, as I may need your project to find the cause.

I hope that helps.
