Built with Blocs - new hotel site

I would welcome feedback on this site. The bad as well as any good points. It is for a guest house/annexe attached to a hotel. I am now about to rebuild the existing pages for the hotel website and and put it all under one domain. So if anyone sees any negatives in the build or experience of these pages do not hesitate to say before I repeat the errors in the next stage. And thank you in advance for taking the time.

One improvement I want to make is to reduce the height of the navigation for a phone in horizontal mode. I have explored smart nav but that is now no longer receiving support. So any suggestions would be gratefully received.

hum look so 90’s website sorry it is not a compliment… there is a template for hotel on the bloc store why don’t use it ?

Fonts are too small, all is difficult to read … because you overlap texts on colored blocs on images … try to redo all without put any text on a picture …

Hi @calvados, I like it, but have to agree with @FredFromParis on the paragraph text size. I’ve only looked on a large screen, but I reckon it could be enlarged slightly.

Only other thing that jumped out at me was that when the busier pictures scroll up behind the menu bloc, the menu becomes a bit difficult to read, but I think making the opacity a bit less would solve that. In fact, on a second look, there are a few places where the text may need to change colour and up the opacity slightly of the colour behind it (or darken the pictures).

I find that when I work on something - knowing what the copy says - I have no problems in reading it, then the wife comes along and wipes the slate clean and tells me where I’ve gone wrong!

But a good solid site.

There seems to be a lot of great work went into this. I really like some of the animations and photography and design. There’s a few bits of white text which are lost scrolling over some pics. I’m also not a big fan of the font (but that’s just me).

All in all, i think you’ve done a great job.!

I really like the site. The colour scheme and images give it a classy and welcoming feel. Personally, I would lose some of the parallax backgrounds and animations, but that’s just my opinion.

The one major problem (from my stand point) I can see is that you don’t allow pets in the rooms; but, your hotel, your rules!

Good work! As others mentioned, enhancing the readability of certain text sections will make it more user-friendly. Otherwise, that’s a solid foundation. Well done!

Another suggestion I have is to position the Menu hamburger icon to the right on mobile devices. You can achieve this by adjusting the column order settings for different breakpoints.

I like the site.
Yeah you have more work to do, but it operates fine and looks good.
I agree that some text is tough to read, especially that paragraph over the carpet.

You did some fine work here…now refine it a bit.

Bon travail.
Juste un point le passage de la langue EN en FR ouvre une autre page. Je ne trouve pas cela très pertinent.

Good work.
Just one point: the change from EN to FR opens another page. I don’t find that very relevant.

Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to look and comment. I’ll review the legibility and accessibility of the text. Lighthouse scores are reasonable — 90+ for accessibility on most pages, except for the room pages at 82. The landing page scores best at 94/90/100/100. They provide suggestions for improvement, though some of it goes over my head.
And yes I see I need to fix the navigation bloc - perhaps have it disappear on scrolling ?

The hotel owner prioritizes comfort and aesthetics, and coming from an art and design world, I also value strong visuals and first impressions. This is a unique hotel/guesthouse, so a standard design and generic text wouldn’t suit it. We’ve worked on the assumption that visitors quickly decide whether the style, location, and price work for them, All the text ( which is like pulling teeth from my lovely client) does a SEO job, but I bet few will read it all. That said, I’ll work on making it clearer.

@AdamNotEve @Reg Encouraging feedback on my photos—and more will be taken.

@Pat For EN>FR>EN navigation, the alternate home page is offered in the switch. If it is better to toggle between pageFR and pageEN directly, we may need to move the button outside the global area ?

@FredFromParis — 90s? That’s 30 years ago ! I honestly can’t remember what websites looked like then. Can you give me examples Fred?

Great job! Please work on making the website more user-friendly for mobile devices.

I agree with many of the other comments, the site does look very good but needs a little finishing.
If you are looking for feedback on the photos, the one thing that jumps out to me is the mixed colour balances. I do a lot of interior photography and this is one area that I pay a lot of attention to.
For a hotel (and most interiors), a very slight warm cast is preferable to a cold blue cast, but also the rooms also usually want to look bright and inviting. Too many dark shadows don’t feel welcoming and can be a little off-putting.
I wouldn’t change a great deal, but a few tweaks here and there will definitely help. Good luck with the client, we all know how they expect so much but give so little!
