Feature request: Save window positions

It would be great, if Blocs was capable of saving the window positions of “palette” windows, such as the Asset manager, Colour manager, Class Manager, etc. I am working with an external display, and if I move such windows to this monitor, they reappear on my main monitor after restarting the app. A minor thing, but would be nice. Keep up the great work!

Good call!
And do you find that when you open up Blocs, the first project to open shows at a very small size? Only about the size of the menu/splash screen.
Only noticed this since I went to a laptop/external display setup.

Yep I find this frustrating too, blocs 5 used to stay as it was in the positions you left it and th size you left it, I have found blocs 6 doesn’t @Norm

Windows restore here for me after I reopen Blocs.

Im using a desktop computer.

@TrevReav @Recce43 are you using desktop Macs or laptops? Also are you using multi displays?

Hi @Norm,
I’m a laptop bloke with a 27" Dell external.
Blocs splash screen always opens up on laptop screen, no problem with that, then opening a project opens a new window approximately the size of the splash screen ie: small. Dragging to the external monitor retains it’s small size until resized. Quitting Blocs and opening up the project again follows the same pattern.
I open other windows for classes, assets, colours etc. when needed, so can’t really comment on their retaining positions on reopening.

I’m on a Mac Studio with 3 x 32 inch monitors, sadly never stays the same

Try setting up your window arrangement on the center (main) monitor closing Blocs and reopening to see if the restore.

I think the multi display is what may be the issue here. I’ll see if I can improve this.

Hi. I always do that each time anyway. Sadly no luck

And this is what I have on opening up this morning - no edges for me pull or resize in main window! So it’s a bit difficult to navigate around.
I’m about to head out, but on return will disconnect external, restart and see how it goes.

I realise I can go to the window options and get it right from there, but surely this shouldn’t happen?

Righty ho: window testing.
Laptop: default screen res of 1512 x 982
External screen res 2560 x 1440

The main screen seems to be my biggest problem, the classes, colours etc. all stay where they should be after a restart of Blocs.

If I open Blocs , the project window opens up on the laptop screen about the same size as the splash screen with the last previous projects menu, ie: small.
Pull this to the larger external, it stays small. Resize that window to a larger workable size and restart Blocs and it (generally) opens up again on the laptop screen at the small size. Although this morning it didn’t - it was like the screenshot above!

If I’m working on the larger screen at a bigger size and drag to the laptop screen, it’s oversized for the screen, and again looks like the screenshot supplied on my previous post.

Maybe not a lot to go on there, but that’s just me testing in the last 20 minutes.

Yes Norm, it is the Multi Display. That is how I am set up with my new mini. A single display is fine, blocs opens as expected, but with dual display, for example, I have the asset manager on my second display, but blocs ALWAYS opens it on top of the main window on my main display.
Blocs 5 always worked the same way. I had dual displays with my iMac back then.

Hey everyone, I have this fixed up and ready for Blocs for the Mac 6.2 beta build 2 (release early next week).

Blocs now stores dual display window configurations and will restore them after a restart. It will even restore them if you run Blocs with one monitor detached for a while, the next time you hook up a second screen, Blocs will remember to use the extra space.

I’ve not tested with 3 screens but it should also support that too… :sunglasses:
