I have been using blocs for a couple years now and love it. The one area it is always lacking is a easy robust blogging function. I know there are options, like Volt and the Wordpress theme builder, but I want something as beautiful and easy to use as Blocs.
I ran across Publii a while ago and simply love what they have done. Flat CMS for blogging that works right out of the box. However, they are almost impossible to customize and make a fully robust site without being a developer.
If only blocs and publii could be combined to make a super baby.
I can dream right?
Nice idea, but as you’re having some problems with the look of it, then I’d give Volt Blog another go - it naturally picks up your font classes, colours etc. and integrates nicely.

I have been able to get volt to work in the past. My main complaint is the poor backend interface. But it is at least possible to somewhat get the look you are looking for via CSS. Just saying it would be nice to have this functionality for blogging similar to Publii, but inside blocs.
The idea isn’t to have to use two programs but to have a more robust blogging / dynamic content solution inside of blocs. I just like the look and feel of how Publii handles blog posts via a desktop app still utilizing HTML files. Page creation, linking, and all that just happen organically. Saying it would be nice to have more robust features for this type of content within blocs.

Not sure what you mean by Poor backend interface. I find it very intuitive.
First off, I think Volt is awesome for what it is and can do. But my problems are:
-
It’s hard for me to visually design when the blocs for volt content are just blue boxes. Wish I could see live content when designing in blocs. I understand this probably isn’t possible.
-
The user interface is a bit dated and not exactly what I want to hand over to clients.
-
the types of content I want to manage via a CMS aren’t available. And styling of elements via css is a bit tricky with having to re-upload and check with every change. It’s also hard to manage more than 3 - 4 custom classes with the inline place to put them in the volt core settings.
I really love surreal and the way it works, the ability to design the site and just make the element editable in via the CMS. However, Volt does win because it stores changes in its own folder that isn’t overwritten like surreal is when you make a change in blocs and re-upload (This is the reason surreal isn’t an option since all changes made in cms are overwritten if you ever make a change in blocs)
The point of this thread was not to bash on Volt CMS or complain, but to point out another static website builder that I think is doing a great job with handling blogging content and think something like this in blocs with all of blocs amazing functionality would be awesome.

I know this is an old thread but another vote for Publii. Publii is one of the best choices for CMS, especially those interested in SEO:
- Publii is static, so now worries about security etc
- Publii is open source
- It runs native on macOS and windows
- It can compile straight to GitHub/SFTP etc
