Help moving to new Mac

I’m trying to move from an old 2015 MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Air.

My files are stored on iCloud (so I thought the new machine would connect in exactly the same way) and my images and other assets are hosted remotely, so they show up OK.

But having trouble with fonts and project attachments. I’ve copied fonts from Application Support support in Library (as suggested on an older thread) but didn’t work. I’m having to delete them and add again to make work. A pain, but I can do that.

But have no idea about the missing project attachments, eg volt-editor.min.js (the volt brics are showing up ok in the project)

Is there a ‘proper’ way to move to another computer? A set of steps? Any suggestions appreciated!

Apple make it really easy to do. I did the very same a few months back.

Thanks for that Pete. I was really hoping to not have to transfer everything -( want to have a fresh start and not bring over all the rubbish apps and junk that has accumulated over the last 8 years!) - it looks like this option will bring over all apps/files but I will check it out and see if possible to be more selective.
Thanks again.

Yup, add a Time Machine backup and it work great. I cleaned out everything I didn’t want on my old Mac and then did a backup and migrated. I was surprised at how good a job it did.

I’ve migrated clients from windows to macOS as well.

It works very very well.

Nothing more satisfying that kitting out a client with iMacs, iPads, iPhone :joy:

As @casey1823 mentioned, clear out your old Mac first and reinstall from that. I’ve use AppZapper in the past to get rid of apps and all of the peripheral files you’d normally miss. Worked well for me.

@PeteSharp, I’m doing a similar thing with a friend of mine, she’s getting rid of her old Macbook and replacing it with an iPad. All has gone quite smoothly so far by basically cloning her iPhone to the iPad, but for some reason Messages just refuses to connect. She’s signed into her iCloud account, I go to connect and get something along the lines of ‘Sorry, unable to connect, the FaceTime server isn’t responding at the moment’.
Must have tried this about 30 times now, always with the same result - any thoughts?
LAst thing - any ideas why I can receive all messages on my phone, but certain ones are missing from my desktop app?

Sorry to hijack the post, but hopefully AppZapper may be of some use to you. About 20 USD I think.

Have you enabled text message forwarding or maybe it’s been disabled. Under message settings.

After setting up my Max Mini I had to enable it manually.

That was it Pete - it had somehow been switched off - cheers.
