How much code should I know

Noobie question. I’m enjoying the trial version of blocs, but from time to time I’m running into situations that need code, or a general understanding of code. I can understand html, but css usually leaves me cold.
I’m hoping that I can gradually learn more about workflow etc, and a few tips and tricks; but how much “under the hood” should I know to construct something visually appealing. Many thanks,

I should also add I come from a graphic design background and design websites for non profit animal shelters.

This is a bit like “how long is a piece of string”.
It’s really user dependant on what you’d like the finished results to be.
Like you, I come from a graphic design background and I know very (very, very, very etc) little code, and I can turn out decent looking websites.
It makes sense to know a bit of code, but you can get very good, and rock solid, sites straight out of the Blocs box.

To make a website with blocs all you need is a good understanding of blocs itself and an artist’s eye, kind of like picasso you know, just look for a website design you like and apply it to your own idea. It is also the best way to learn.

Enjoy

Thanks all for responding. I think I’m getting a little mixed up with the blocs interface and what various parts do.
I can basically make a page, but as a designer I immediately want to change something. If I want to change anything it usually results in more questions. I must understand what the UI can do before I delve into code.
The videos and knowledge base is very good.

I am a designer too, and my process consist in first making a design proposal and then work within blocs.
Anything you want to achieve in visual terms is possible with blocs, you only know how to work with the grid and the styles. Then if you want to add some advanced interactions you should have some coding knowledge.

For the basics, the class manager, padding, margins and offsets are all your friends - and all within Blocs without any external coding.

Basically, get your head around these, have a play and then see how much code you need to learn afterwards to achieve what you want.

For me, minimal is enough, if I need more and don’t know what I’m looking for (which is my main problem), then asking here (or searching the forum first) will normally point you in the right direction at least.

Thanks everyone. I’m in the try out at the moment. Enjoying it. Retired broadcasters and never had time to delve into code that much. Html basics and about it.
