Image refuses to export

This problem is exclusive (in my case) to Blocs on the iPad.

I have a background image (.jpg) which absolutely refuses to export to the img folder of my site. I’ve tried deleting it, renaming, etc, but still it doesn’t appear when the project is exported (and subsequently uploaded). The image is referenced correctly in the index file.

I can upload the image directly to the correct folder on my server and it appears on the site, but that defeats being able to publish through Blocs.

Any ideas?

Hey @Reg in the exported HTML what is the file suffix (.jpg | .png etc) and is it lower or upper case?

I would try exporting with webP disabled to see if that has any effect.

Hi Norm,

The exported index file doesn’t show a suffix: parallax bg-ghostwalk-banner bgc-234

I did notice that the .JPG was in upper case (for some reason; I didn’t do it) when imported into the project, so I ran the image through Affinity photo to change the suffix to lower case. The image still didn’t export. I’ll try disabling the webP and let you know.

Thanks.

UPDATE:

I disabled webP and the image still doesn’t export. It show in preview, but doesn’t appear in the img folder. The site is bootstrap 4, if that makes a difference.

Try giving the asset a completely new name (outside of Blocs) and importing the new version and apply it in place of the old one.

Hi,

I’ve already done that once before, but just did it again, with no success.

Also just tried an image from a different project, but it’s still not exporting, though it is referenced in the index file (still with no suffix).

Are you applying the image as a bloc Background?

Yes, I was just going to write that. Any image applied as a block background isn’t exporting. Images added as an image do export.

When did this start happening? Have you tried disabling parallax if you have it enabled.

This is a project I ‘airdropped’ from my Mac today, so that’s as long as I’ve noticed the issue. It exports fine on Blocs Desktop. The problem is only with Blocs on iPad. I have tried various setting: with/ without parallax, etc., but that doesn’t resolve it.

I did try another project a few weeks ago (also airdropped from Mac to iPad) that has a Hype animation on the homepage. I couldn’t get the animation to export at all, even though I have the Hype Embed Bric added (in this case, the animation doesn’t appear in the preview either). The Hype resources are added to the project attachments. Not sure if this is a related issue.

I appreciate your attention so far on this matter, Norm.

I assume the project assets are embedded in the project? Is there any possibility I could get access to the project with missing bloc backgrounds?

I could Zip up the file and sent it to you (WeTransfer). I’ve just noticed that the option to embed assets is greyed out and I can’t interact with it, though all assets are embedded. Could there be an issue there?

I think the issue may be with the age of the project or possibly the asset paths.

I just created a quick, test project and background images are exporting fine. I’ll have to chalk this one up to ‘unhappy bunny’. The site is due an overhaul, so I’ll create a complete new site: copy/ paste is your friend!

Thanks for your help, Norm.

It would still be very helpful to get a copy of the file of possible :grinning:
