I just watched the video of this! I have sent it to a few friends who was considering iPads for their kids for school and straight away they want this - I would have loved it if they made it touch screen too! but then the cost will jump up.

£599 for 256gb is a brilliant price.
@Norm - will this run Blocs !?

I can honestly see this being one of apples biggest and quickest selling macbook’s in a short space of time, I love my M1 Pro and the neo will never replace this…but this isn’t designed for this.

Students, casual users, school kids, adults looking for a casual laptop. I am happy with my 13” MacBook Pro as a back up to my M1 Pro……, but this in Yellow would be so COOL and a Pikachu image on the front !

I see no reason why.

Having a more affordable laptop (in this price range) is great news for all Mac software developers

I am tempted to later in the year get my youngest one to do his school work on. I will sell some older Macs and bits we have to fund it and BOOM! Neo here we are !.lol

I am not sure about UK, but I think it will be just $499 for the base model in Educational Store in US. Which is a great deal for first time users like students, etc.

Now, hopefully Apple gets its act together and realizes that the future of the web design lies with Blocs. Hopefully, they will do their best to convince @Helen to allow @Norm to sign a super lucrative deal with Cazoobi to include Blocs 6 on every new MacBook Neo :ok_hand:

Fingers crossed! :folded_hands:t2:

I don’t think I’d need much convincing! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: … as long as they throw in a Pink MacBook Neo for me

Very interesting, so what is the need for an iPad now. It makes me think how many iPad user will get the Neo and use it as the primary for travel.

I would still 100% prefer for iPad to be my main computer over the MacBook Neo. I just hope Apple will allow the proper macOS apps to be run on it (since they are introducing touch MacBooks later this year).

Don’t forget Macs also now run iPhone and iPad apps. Unfortunately I think this is more likely to be the focus of a touch MacBook in demos / use case. With native Mac apps being a kind of touch friendly after thought.

It’s hard to tell if we will ever get MacOS apps on an iPad, from my experience there are still many architectural differences. The iPad is still super restricted on resources to prevent battery drain, I think a few Mac apps left running in the background on an iPad would kill the battery pretty quick.

Maybe a keyboard with built in battery is the solution.

You also have to consider restrictions, there are so many on the iPad that are not on the Mac. You could also find many apps just would not work unless they are booted in macOS, so maybe an OS simulator may come like parallels but for macOS, this may work ok.

Remember “Net Books”?

I think this is similar.

It would have been a killer device if it did have touch screen ! but ill admit, I have 2 Dell laptops for live events and I never use the touch element of it.

Actually MacOS 26.3.2 is available on the MacBook NEO
