Poof missing assets with 5.2.7 release

Wow! Just from updating to Blocs 5.2.7 There are 79 photos now missing in one project that did not have that issue with 5.2.6. No I did not move any resource folders/files. So what happened?

I would suggest redownloading the latest version directly and re-installing it over the in-app updated version.

It may be a permissions issue that is restricting access to your HD.

Thanks Norm,
I will give that a try and let you know.

Results were the same, Norm.

Is there a way to get this entire list in a text file? Even if I right click I get no File Info window, so I do know the source.

Are you running Blocs 5.2.7 from the same location on you Mac as 5.2.6?

What happens if you return to 5.2.6?

I let 5.2.7 install over 5.2.6, so the old release no longer is available.

Is this not possible?

Yes, you can just download it from the release notes page and drag it over the old version.

Sorry, I meant getting a list of the missing file or a least right clicking to get the file info.

@KBConcepts , Norm was responding the following statment you made …

Because he want’s to know this …

Try downloading 5.2.6 and overwriting 5.2.7 as Norm suggested.

I thought I was clear, regardless the same thing happens. ;-(

Seems odd that reverting back to 5.2.6 still does not work, given you said it did in your first post?

The “Missing Assets” info is housed in the “.blocs” file itself. I had a quick peak around and didn’t notice it logged elsewhere, though I didn’t spend too much time digging. It seems the check within the app is just referring to location of the linked file(s) in the .blocs file data and reporting them.

I can verify that linked images if moved / renamed will throw the error but if moved back and the names corrected everything links up as they should. Based upon this, did you move or rename the images?

Thanks for taking the time help. What do you mean by peaking around?

Looks like I am going to go through lots of folders to locate the originals files. Once, I do I’ll have to reconnect them.

Meaning just looking around within the following:

  • .blocs file
  • Blocs app bundle
  • Library ie: App Support, Cache, Logs, Prefs, etc.,

The data may be housed elsewhere but my quick guess is there is a check within the app against the asset information collectively found within the Blocs file. Those assets which are not found are then listed and can be relinked through this window. I guess you want this same list to be available as a selectable text list, or exported as text so you can use those asset(s) names to search within macOS itself without retyping them manually.

Its unlikely to be an issue with the new version of Blocs if the previous version gives you the same results.

If you are using linked asset files in your project, then you have broken links. You may have renamed a folder on your Mac and this has caused the links to break.

Yes, wouldn’t that be a good idea, when things like this happen. This one, is for you @Norm, maybe you have a work-a-around.

Norm, version 5.2.6 worked with no problem with connection local assets. This just started when I installed (over the top of 5.2.6)

This is not the case. I had this problem long time ago and learned my lesson.

Just to keep you all up to date. I have re-connected all the missing assets. I have no choice.
Thanks to all who replied

Please pay attention to @Blocs_User who said, “this same list to be available as a selectable text list, or exported as text so you can use those asset(s) names to search within macOS itself without retyping them manually.”

To answer your list question, select the files you want in your list, copy and paste into a TextEdit file. At least that used to work for me.

You can’t do that with the open window. Not only that you can’t right click to show in finder.
