Hello @Whittfield. Just updated Blocs to v6 and have issues with an existing site using Tab Anything Pro.
The index number is showing up on the fontend. Even if I disable index number in the backend.
I’d like to use it with links on image rather than actual Tab Anything bar. I did it on another website and it works. I replicated the same links syntax but it is not working. When I click on an item, instead of showing the respective DIV, it brings me to top go page.
The mobile settings not working: no dropdown menu.
I tried to write to @Whittfield through Gumroad but the length of the chat is limited.
Well this is distressing.
I use TAP all over my sites.
I have not moved to B6 and will explore this a bit more, but this has been my greatest fear with Blocs…abandoned developers and their Brics I purchased no longer work.
I think this very scenario concerns me going forward with Blocs.
But the same happens with other applications or platforms.
I have quite a few Joomla based website with extensions and to update, it is a nightmare!
Hopefully some old ones, still with Jooma version 2.x and PHP 4.2 are working like a charm. But I won’t update them.
The all idea switching to Blocs was to avoid these compatibility problems.
And I realize that less custom brics we use, less risks of having a site which broke over times.
Yeah - unfortunately this happens a lot in the web industry on custom brics/stacks/plugins etc.
Things move on at a fast pace with browsers, bootstrap and blocs itself and developers either need to update too if they want it to be compatible with the current version, or make it clear that it only supports a certain release, which is fine to keep using if that bric is a huge part of your use. Whitfield stopped supporting a long long time ago - hence the big change in the store, which is a shame because his brics were brilliant !!!
The problem is not Blocs though. I had a couple of brics from Whitfield that never even worked on the version it was released on…which was rare for him.
But card designer, Tab anything were great brics.
I’d love all Whitfields brics and some other brics to work too, but the if the developer has done what hundreds of Wordpress plugin developers do each week and that is design something and move on - leaving many in limbo once Wordpress gets an update. I had to change a few websites myself, but found in the end much a much better way.
My view is to use only current developers that are supporting and active on the forum.
@svimic@WeatherguyNH - Do you think with using Tab Anything, that you could remove this and start using what Blocs is offering that you could change your design to bring it up to date? or approach it differently ? - like Tabs in Blocs etc?
I can’t argue much with you Adie…what takes the place of TAP?
This bric not working is a killer for me…
Just checking this on my web site…seems like it works for me, but not sure if I started a new project it would work there? Will need to play more.
I also can’t get preview to work? It shows the top screen, but none of links are active, can’t scroll down, etc…Had to use the web link. That worked, but otherwise seems useless.
Yeah I get that - if a site is so strong on using something, then it will be time consuming to change.
I had it where I had loads of Card designer profiles on a website and the client wanted the same the next year and I could not get it to work!! So I actually used a card I developed and make it grow on hover and it did exactly the same…but Tab anything would be a lot more work.
@WeatherguyNH could you share your websites that are using it on here ? - just the URL - or send me in PM and I will take a Quick Look. (I am guessing your main website from your profile?)
You have 3 options here if you want to grab the new Blocs while on its last day on special price:
I do think how you are using it, that Tabbed Content in Blocs will be fine for what you are looking to do and here is a video @Eldar did showing what you are trying to achieve = LINK
Toggle visibility?
Or stick with what you have, but I do think using Tabbed Content in Blocs will be your winner! and can style is how you want…oh and upgrading quick to Blocs 6 !!
The alternative is clearly to use custom interactions .
I’m trying it but I still need to understand better the if then instructions. By the way, @Norm it would be great to be able to duplicate an interaction. But that’s another topic.
I think I can now confirm that TAP does not work properly in Blocs 6.
A huge disappointment for me, and I am sure many others who used this Bric regularly. I was using this bric extensively on my sites.
Decision time—Stay with Blocs or move on?
Sorry, yes, but I don’t look at it that way.
The Blocs developer (Norm) needs to work with his 3rd party developer base to ensure everything works correctly and they are all in sync.
Obviously, since Whittefield has abandoned Blocs, his brics are problematic, however, that issue is not mine, it is Norms. The problem is mine.
Did his beta testers test B6 and figure out what brics worked and what did not? Had that been done, at the very least, Norm could have warned us that TAP was not going to work in B6. That I could accept and had begun making plans to use some other option.
That didn’t happen.
I am looking at the video Adie sent me on setting up vertical tabs.
Replacement? There are at least half a dozen options out there besides Blocs I could give a tumble.
Would like to remain here, but broken brics, and things not working correctly in Blocs 6 are disturbing. Preview is a dog for instance. It doesn’t work or it works extremely slowly making it useless, and that was supposed to be a great new feature in Blocs 6.
I have been positive throughout my time here, supporting Blocs, Norm, and the developers. However, with B6 breaking stuff and problems, I am just not as happy as I was two weeks ago when most everything worked, bugs and all.
In fact, yes I do. I am constantly annoyed that Apple did not beta test its software sufficiently to weed out as many bugs as possible.
Sure, things get missed…I get that. But we don’t have a whole lot of 3rd party brics to test here.
This could easily have been accomplished, in my view.
It seems like @Whittfieldlast updated his brics in January 2023, with Blocs 5 being released in late 2022. Since then people have been posting issues, voicing lack of support regarding communication from Whittfield concerning his brics ever since we last saw him. Does that make it or is it an inherent Blocs problem – that @Whittfield abandoned his own offerings?
Blocs 6 seemingly will be a good litmus test to see if @Whittfield comes back around – Last Post January 20th & Last Seen February 5th – it does not look promising though. On a personal level I sincerely hope he’s ok, as he seemed like a really nice and professional individual. Which makes the absence and behavior regarding supporting his offerings all that more puzzling.
I agree, Whitfield was a very nice, helpful developer, and when his brics worked, they were imaginative and clever.
I don’t hold Norm and crew responsible for cleaning up any mess he left, it just would have been nice to know, months ago, that a bric that many use would not be working in B6.
That would have allowed me to make an educated decision around jumping in to B6, staying with B5, or using another tool.
I had a very difficult time going from B4 to B5, so this time, I am running B5 alongside B6, and still using B5 for my everyday.
I was hoping to rebuild my own site using B6, but without TAP, I will need to find another alternative, such as tabbed bric. I am working through Eldars adaptation, and I hope it works for me as well as TAP did.
