Timemachine migration to a new Macbook Air

Hi all, bit off topic for Blocs, but we are all Mac users so a great place to ask. I’m thinking of getting a new Macbook Air M4, just deciding whether to order now for delivery tomorrow.

With a Timemachine migration does it do what’s expected and simply clone to the new Mac, just wondering what the experiences of other folk are with this?

Some apps are registration seperate to the Mac store process, e.g. Blocs, 3D software etc so I imagine I will need to deactivate first before final timemachine backup then reactivate after migration.

I use OneDrive sync, now this bit does worry me that I timemachine and my local folder then attempts to upload and I then have tons of duplicates or stuff in cloud only and not local is deleted with sync thinking it is not there. I have no basis for this thought other than repeated hassle when doing anything even slightly confusing to a cloud drive in the past.

I do backup to Timemachine, have cloud replication and also external drive folder structure clones so do have many backup contingencies.

For info in the past I have never used Timemachine, always done this manually, but can take all weekend for cloud drives to download/upload and settle themselves down, thought Timemachine might make it easier this time.
