WebP images don't work in social cards (OG Image)

So I just spent 30 minutes adding social cards to all my pages - including images. The images are in WebP format. Then I went back to double check everything and the images were gone. So I added them again. checked again. Gone. Repeat etc.

Then out of frustration I added a PNG image, and it worked just fine. Hmmm …

So I asked ChatGPT “what image formats are supported for og:image”. It seems that WEbP is allowed and supported:

Recommended Image Formats for og:image

  1. JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg) – Best for photos and general images (widely supported and compressed efficiently).
  2. PNG (.png) – Best for images with transparency (but larger file size).
  3. WebP (.webp) – More efficient than JPEG and PNG but may not be supported by all platforms.
  4. GIF (.gif) – Supports animation but may not work correctly on all platforms.
  5. SVG (.svg) – Vector images, but not all social media platforms support them properly.

Platform-Specific Considerations
Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (X): JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF are supported.

So at a glance, it would seem that the problem is within Blocs (?)

I haven’t tried it to be fair, as I only use jpeg for this as the images are small and as it seems to be the most supported I can’t see any reason to for a small image to try Webp for this - introducing this in my head will bring possible issues with some up and coming social platforms and sharing on blog platforms - where Jpeg ticks every box.

But if its supposed to support it - hope @Norm sorts it for you.
