What Apps do you use?

This is the preset I use - perhaps it can kickstart your own preset (the thing with presets is that many people use different apps so probably my preset won’t be very helpful to many other people)
Also - it is a constant work in progress. I usually make the effort to add a new command as soon I repeat a click or mouse operation more than 3 times but often also I don’t have time for that, it is a bit expensive to set it up, once that’s done then time can really be saved.

Forum here doesn’t allow upload of that file so I have added it here

Thanks for the article, useful to know.

Great catch!

I’ve used Tunelf Spotibeat Music Converter to download my preferred Spotify songs.

Just discovered this handy toolbox. You can add it as an extension to Firefox or Chrome. (Just realizing most of members use Safari)
anyhow…

I use the Canary version of Chrome for inspecting to elements.
Curious, what web developers are finding most useful.

Cool find @Jerome, I was just searching last night on how to add youtube’s transparent play button to downloaded thumbnails.

One I have been using for a while now that has become indispensable called PastePal. It took me a little while to set the preferences as I wanted and get used to it, then I wondered how I had managed so many years without it. When you are building sites and using copy paste all day this is a no brainer.

oh yes it’s a fantastic app.
However i’m paranoid about their private policy tbh

I am currently testing Obsidian for notes and documentation. Great tool!

On the iTunes page link it says no data is collected by PastePal, therefore privacy should be OK. Are you looking at the general link that covers all kinds of apps on the store?

On the developer website it says:

" No tracking
No analysis and data collecting. Your data remain locally and safe on your devices."

https://onmyway133.com/pastepal/

I have tried a few others clipboard copy/paste apps and none of them seem to come close.

the link in the app Privacy Policy

Well that is certainly a huge contradiction on what is stated elsewhere. I think it may be worth contacting him, though my understanding was that Apple tests all apps for things like this. From what I can see it just looks like log data if the app crashes and that is pretty much standard with any app.

I use “paste
I am pretty sure it has saved me not hours, but days, if not weeks, of re-copying and re-pasting.
I bought it some years ago so I am not sure what they charge now, but it is a real tool, like how computers should be lol (supposed to save us time/help us doing things)…

They store the data on local storage, so it never goes online.
Of course if you use sync across devices it will store it remotely, but you can disable that (and I would, because it does not work anyway and Apple has that inbuilt anyway, at least for your last copy-item, not as a log of course).

I have been literally saved by this app multiple times, like for example I had a server disconnecting while editing a PHP file, the entire PHP content was gone… but since I by habit meanwhile to a cmd+c on all and everything, I had it in the paste history. Or things like “oh, last week I had this cool code that did this cool thing and I cannot recall the code… but I can recall parts of it”. You just search in the paste history, and there you will find your “snip” available… truly a timesaver. The only tool so far I found in the world of computers that really makes my life easier and not harder lol.

It looks just about identical to pastepal. Everything in Pastepal is stored locally by default, however you can enable iCloud sync with the premium version, which could be useful if you are working on different devices.

Looking at the web page, Paste is a subscription deal, whereas Pastepal is free for the standard version or a one time charge of $14.99 to unlock the premium features. According to their site that is a universal purchase covering Mac, iPhone and iPad apps.

Whether you choose Paste, Pastepal or perhaps some other that I don’t know about there are some brilliant paste apps available for Mac that would be absolutely essential for anybody building websites. For years I relied on Launchbar for copy paste, but it was nowhere near as capable for this purpose.

My new best buddy app on the Mac is Colorslurp. Again there is a free version or a very reasonably priced pro version. That makes it so easy to work with colours and create palettes.

You‘ve said that the end is nigh for photoshop.
What alternative to photoshop do you see/use?

Hi @Konsti, there’s another thread I started a while ago about the Affinity Suite of programmes which are out to challenge Adobe.
I now use Affinity Photo in place of Photoshop all of the time. It has its quirks, but once you accept how it does things (after 30 odd years of Photoshop), it does everything very well.
I believe you can download a trial (not sure), but be prepared to put in a bit of time to get used to the differences.

Thank you, i will check them out!

I use the complete Affinity suite and occasional Pixelmator Pro…

Hello,
does anyone have a good tip for an alternative to Adobe Acrobat on a Mac?

Merry Christmas and a happy new year. :christmas_tree: :tada:
