What is that icon?

Hi,

any idea for me what this little Icon is (L Sep)? I only see it on a Windows Computer and Edge Browser …
Not on Chrome or Safari ?

thanks tom

I think that is the U+2028 LSEP character that is not supposed to show. Maybe check that bit of text in Blocs for any unwanted spaces or line breaks.

Hi, okay. I will check. When I get a text by a client in a word doc I copy the text in the text edit app and set the text to no format and then copy again and insert in blocs … Is that a good way ? Or you handle this ?

thanks

Text being pasted from Word docs is horribly problematic and I’ve even seen it mess up text when pasted inside iMovie. For the most part Blocs should be eliminating extra baggage like this, but for my part I use two apps to help with this.

The first is called Get Plain Text, which strips out unwanted html etc. If you look in the App Store you will see a few free apps doing the same thing.

Another app I use is the indispensable Paste Pal that has helped my workflow tremendously. That also has an auto plain text option, so in theory I could use this alone and delete the other one.

It’s possible you just have an unwanted line break inside Blocs that you have missed. I remember a while back seeing these were not showing up correctly on the canvas following a link and only picked up via the layer tree. I did report it as a bug!

Hi @tom2, that’s also what I do without any problems (so far).

By saying ‘set text to no format’, how do you do this? I just go to Menu>Format>make plain text, and this seems to work for me.

I also have the apps @Flashman suggests as a fallback should I run across any problems.

I just open them in Pages, then copy paste to Blocs, knowing the apps in question will do the job. After going through this I decided to disable Get Plain Text and see how it goes with Paste Pal alone, which should be fine. I love the way it keeps the history and it also syncs with the iPhone. I paid for the pro upgrade, which was a small price to pay for the additional utility.

Another free alternative here I didn’t know before that seems popular.
