What is the permalink-URL good for?

In the link bloc, we can chose to use a “WordPress Link”. If we select that, one option is the “Permalink URL”

What is that?
Something like that does not exist, in WordPress.

Permalinks is a term used to describe the “rewriting” of URLs.
Like… Permalink settings to “post name” would mean all your pages and posts link to /post-name instead of /?p=123

But there is no such thing as a “Permalink URL” in WordPress, even more confusing is that when selecting this, no further option appears.

When I select it, it de facto does nothing: the href generated is a simple #, thus … I am truly not sure what that is?

Someone has insight?

I suspect @Norm is best placed to offer some insight here.

Maybe this helps:

If the Blocs setting does refer to that, meaning to link to the Current Post (using permalink) that could make sense, but it would mean that it is not really working, since it generates a # url, and not the current posts permalink…
