App Cleaners

Which one do you choose or use?

I just found an open source app. Pearcleaner and it works like AppCleaner. Does anyone use it?

Using TrashMe for years now. Need to check of course, that it doesn’t delete files that might belong to another app. But I guess that goes for all apps that offer this kind of service.

I have been using AppCleaner for many years. It’s free and very efficient. Unlike some paid ones that I have tried in the past, it is kept up to date.

I’ve been using AppCleaner for many years, but it currently doesn’t function well with Sequoia and in need of an update.

Does anyone know of an app cleaner that does function well with Sequoia?
I have tried a couple that claimed to be Sequoia compatible, but like AppCleaner, they are unable to remove several files and folders that require permission. Very messy.

EDIT:
I will test ‘App Cleaner & Uninstaller’ over the weekend and see if it lives up to it’s Sequoia Optimized claim and report back my findings here.

On second thoughts SCRUB THAT: “$7.95/month
Billed every month”

Shocking lol

I use App Cleaner & Installer and find it does the job. It’s part of the MacCleaner Pro package which can be bought currently for $84 for 2 Macs, one time payment. It’s $53 for one Mac.

That killed it for me as well…

Nice topic @KBConcepts

I am not using any software; I think to use MacPaw cleans my Mac

I just tried the 7 day trial of Cleanmymac, that was no help at all.
Removed that too.

I don’t use anything as many years ago used one and it removed something the Mac needed to operate and had huge issues.

This was during the Steve jobs days and when Apple had great customer service and my Mac was 5….yes 5 years old and they swapped it free of charge for the current MacBook Pro as wanted to use my Mac as a test to see what had happened! They even gave me a £10 iTunes voucher to cover my car parking which I spent on a film! / I think Home alone! lol

I try to keep my Mac’s as clean as possible by downloading what I need and no bloat etc.

But app cleaner looks to be popular and I’m sure used it once for blocs.

Appzapper for me

I am afraid to use the application Cleanmymac similar to it

AppZapper seems to still work fine, and you easily see and select what to delete.
I think Forklift also has a app removal feature.

While I have purchased Clean My Mac in the past (much to the chagrin of the gazillion-pointer nuts in Apple’s forums who hate that app) and have used it to remove all traces of Apps (including preferences), the equivalent of that functionality for free is App Cleaner, which I have used for years:

https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

I have never had a problem with App Cleaner. That’s not to say the other apps mentioned in this thread are bad. I’ve just not used them.

AppCleaner is a great app, at least until I started using macOS Sequoia. Freemacsoft have yet to update the app for Sequoia. I dare say they will, but I have noticed all the apps I have tried so far, have failed miserably in cleaning up the mess of removing apps.
I’m currently having to do that manually and hoping I don’t make a mess

I am still on Sonoma at home, Monterey at the office.

Are you saying that AppCleaner will remove the App itself on Sequoia but not the associated preference files?

Yes, it leaves a mess behind in the system.
I used an app called EasyFind from DevonTechnologies to locate the artefacts.
