SmallPotato CMS – full client editing + blog for Blocs with AI, scheduling & version history
Hi Blocs Brics fans,
I’ve just released SmallPotato CMS. It’s a suite of five custom Brics that turns a normal Blocs site into a site your client can edit in the browser, plus a proper blog, without you leaving Blocs and without a database.
What it does in short :
Live on-page editing
Full blog with SEO (pretty URLs, titles, descriptions, sharing images, structured data, RSS feed, sitemap, redirects)
Scheduling for regions and posts (publish and optional unpublish)
Version history with one-click restore
Easy setup, no password hash required
AI assistant (Claude, OpenAI or OpenRouter with your own key for drafting, rewriting, SEO titles, excerpts, image alt text and llms.txt)
Multiple editors with email invites and self-serve password resets
Carousel & Grid galleries
Text-only or rich content editing modes
Markdown support
Revert any region to the original Blocs design
No database
Nothing to install on the server
Client edits stored outside the export so re-exports never overwrite them
Unlimited websites
Let me answer all your questions .
What it does in detail:
You design the site in Blocs exactly as you always do. You drop SmallPotato Region Brics around the parts you want the client to be able to change (headings, text, whole sections, images, etc.). You put one Admin Bric on its own page and that’s it.
After you export and upload as normal:
The client logs into the admin page and can edit the regions.
There’s also true live on-page editing: when logged in they see a small bar on the real website, click a region, and edit it in place.
Client edits are stored in a separate data folder outside the public site. A new Blocs export never overwrites them.
Everything runs on ordinary PHP. No database, no Composer, no extra server install.
Blog
If you want a blog you add the three blog Brics:
You design the post list card yourself in Blocs.
You design the single post template once.
Every published post gets its own clean URL, its own title, meta description, sharing image, structured data, plus an RSS feed and sitemap.
Changing a post address creates a redirect automatically.
Features that go beyond the current Blocs CMS options
Scheduling – publish a region edit or a blog post at a specific date/time, and optionally set it to end and revert later. No one needs to be logged in when it happens.
Version history – every published version of a region is kept (last 20). One click restores an older version.
AI assistant – connect Claude, OpenAI or OpenRouter with your own API key. It can draft/rewrite text, write SEO titles, excerpts, image alt text/captions, and even generate llms.txt.
Multiple editors – the owner can invite other people by email. They set their own password and can reset it themselves.
Galleries – posts can have multiple images shown in a Blocs carousel or as a grid.
Text-only vs Rich content modes per region so you can keep layout control where it matters and give freer editing where it doesn’t.
Revert any region back to the original Blocs design at any time (history is kept).

Hi @casey1823,
The demo page clears every 3 hours, including any uploaded images. You may upload as many images as you like, and the timer will indicate when they will be removed.
Yeah, building complicated Brics used to be a pain and often not worth the time. These days AI makes a big difference by speeding up the repetitive stuff and especially bug fixing. We pass those gains on to the end user, which is how we can still offer exceptional Brics at a fair price.
As we speak, I have a Grok Bot building a Bric in the background. To my knowledge, it will be the first autonomous Bric. If the bot manages to get it working without any interference, I’ll drop it here for FREE once it’s ready.
Not in the current version. Adding the option to embed YouTube or Vimeo videos would be straightforward, but self-hosting is trickier. What happens if a client uploads a 1-minute, 100MB, 4K video? Teaching them how to use HandBrake before uploading isn’t why they hired you to build their website.
Adding PDFs is not too complicated. It would work the same way Blocs does simply by showing a button to open (in a new page) or download the PDF. I could potentially even create a post field where you could drop in our PDF reader (ReadPDF), which would give you the full PDF experience.
EDIT: Me reading MP4 while you mentioned MP3
Adding MP3’s is the easiest of all option here
Good for you and others whom are taking advantage of AI in this way, it sure helps to make the blocs store look less barren and offer many more options. Your last line is commendable regarding fair costs for users.
SmallPotato CMS 1.1.0 is here with full PDF, Audio & Video support (the update everyone asked for)
Hi Blocs Brics Fans,
SmallPotato CMS 1.1.0 is out, and it adds the three things so many of you have been asking for: real PDF, audio and video support across the whole CMS.
You can now give clients menus, brochures, price lists, podcasts, background music and videos without leaving Blocs, without a database, and without them pasting embed code. Everything stays in the same protected data folder, so re-exports still never overwrite client content.
What’s new
PDFs
Upload PDFs straight into the Media tab. They show page count and an “Open the PDF” link.
In Rich content regions, a new File button inserts a clean PDF card (icon, name, pages, size). Choose “Opens in a new tab” or “Downloads”.
In Text only regions, clients can Replace PDF behind a button you designed in Blocs (Download interaction). The button looks exactly the same; only the file changes.
Every post can have its own dedicated PDF.
Works beautifully with the ReadPDF Bric: drop it in and every post or page gets a full page-turning flipbook with search, thumbnails and zoom. Old-school new-tab/download still works if you prefer.
Audio (MP3)
Upload MP3s in the Media tab. They show length and a mini player.
New Audio button in the Rich content toolbar inserts a properly styled audio player that uses your site’s colours instead of the browser’s grey one.
Every post can have its own audio file.
The RSS feed is podcast-ready: posts with audio include the MP3 so podcast apps can play them.
Player settings (style, three colours, corners) live in the Post-Field sidebar when Field is set to Audio.
Video (YouTube & Vimeo)
New Video button in the toolbar. Clients just paste a YouTube, YouTube Shorts or Vimeo link (private Vimeo links work too).
Privacy-first: visitors see a thumbnail stored on your own site. YouTube/Vimeo is only contacted when someone clicks play (YouTube uses the cookie-free domain, Vimeo uses “do not track”). Pages stay fast and no cookies are set until then.
Optional title under the video.
All of this works in the admin and in live on-page editing. The media library now handles images, PDFs and MP3s in one place, and you can reuse any file across regions and posts.
This is the upgrade a lot of you have been waiting for. PDFs that look professional, audio that matches your design, and videos that don’t slow the page down or leak cookies. All still one-time, unlimited sites, no database, and fully inside Blocs.
Thanks for trying SmallPotato! You don’t need to change any PHP or “system” settings in Blocs. Each SmallPotato Bric switches its page to .php by itself, and the volt/WordPress options aren’t needed.
The login message means the admin page was exported without a Region, so includes/smallpotato.php never got written. To fix it:
Make sure you’re on Blocs 6 with all five SmallPotato Brics installed.
Drag the SmallPotato (Region) Bric from the Brics panel onto a normal page (for example your home page), not onto the admin page, and give it a Region Key like home-intro.
Click each kind of SmallPotato Bric once (the Region and the Admin), then right-click the Admin Bric and choose Reset Custom Bric → Resources.
Export, upload, and reload /edit/ with Shift held down.
If the Region Bric still won’t drop onto the page, could you send me your Blocs version and a screenshot of the Brics panel at support@blocs-brics.store? I’ll sort it out with you.
Thanks so much! Have fun trying it, and the live playground is a nice place to start: https://playground.blocs-brics.store. If you have any questions while you set it up, just let me know here or at support@blocs-brics.store.
Thanks for asking! Right now the Video button only takes YouTube (including Shorts) and Vimeo links, private Vimeo included. That’s because of the privacy-first loading: the thumbnail is stored on your own site, and nothing is fetched from the video host until a visitor clicks play. Local video files and other CDN or cloud links aren’t supported yet, and the Media tab handles images, PDFs and MP3s for now.
Thought it might take you maybe 1.5 years or something to add such new features, or at least perhaps 10 months or so to update this. However, you did it in one day, thats impressive priority support for such a complex powerful cms bric. Some scorn at AI development etc., while you’re directly admitting and showing its usefulness along with its worth and viability to users. All while passing on the monetary savings to them.
Nice job embracing the present while seeing and preparing for the future.
