Want to reduce bloat in your Blocs generated pages?

Have you have ever disabled Visibility of an object (row, column, image, etc.) in the right sidebar across all breakpoints and then exported your document? You may be surprised to learn that object is in fact written into the page’s HTML. That’s right, even though it’s rather obvious you don’t want that object to be written to the page (as per the fact it is NOT visible in any breakpoint), the code is still there taking up space and, perhaps embarrassingly, waiting for anyone to reveal the page code and read.

The good news is there is a Blocs 4.1 Feature Poll going on for the next 9 days that allows you to make your voice heard. Simply vote for “Prevent layout elements being exported.”

Why is this feature so important? For example, I have a Contact page in my site like most of you. There are several national holidays each year here in Japan, and a couple weeks prior to each of those holidays, I enable visibility of a banner on the Contacts page which makes a specific announcement about our closure in conjunction with that holiday. But even with all those banners visible hidden, Blocs still writes them to the page, which is a problem even though nobody sees them and even though Google probably (not sure, but PROBABLY) doesn’t index that content.

I have other things like campaigns and other “row” content that I leave on the page instead of converting into a Bric because leaving it on the design canvas in Blocs eliminates guesswork when I need it. For example, if it is a bric, I must remember exactly where on the page and on what page it needs to go. Leaving it hidden on the page is best, but only in the case where Blocs won’t write that hidden content to the exported HTML file.

All said, this is my grass-roots campaign to get Blocs users to vote :ballot_box: for “Prevent layout elements being exported.” I know those other features in the poll are compelling, but this feature is too. If you agree, please vote for it. I know it’s possible for you folks to influence the vote as per the fact this forum tells me that 1381 of you have a 1 year forum anniversary badge. Please vote! Thanks!
