TAP Revisited

I have been working with Norm on my Tab Anything Pro issue and this is what I have found…thus far:

If you had TAP installed when you updated to B6, uninstall it and Reinstall it again. This seems to restore more than 95% of its functionality.

Using B6 I built these TAB instances to see what was working and what was not. The transitions are still a bit flakey but some do seem to work.

The most exciting thing I discovered was that the automatic switch to a mobile menu DOES work, you just can’t see it in B6 preview. It seems like it wants to work in B6 preview, but you can’t seem to click on that “Pick Anything” menu.

Here are the examples I was working on today, just to see if I could get this working:
Sorry–had to remove this link (RL)
Shrink the page and the mobile menus do appear.

Finally—PLEASE NOTE: I have not tested every option. Those that own TAP know it has many. If you are working with this Bric and you notice something doesn’t seem right, please make the rest of us aware.

One other note: I believe that you CAN NOT edit TAP on a B5 site that is now open in B6 site and get it to work. I think this ONLY works in a clean B6 “start a new TAP” creation. You can certainly use TAP in B5.

Now there is some good news.

Please take another look…I edited the post with more info…

Its an interesting solution. Can you assign the same to an image or icon or every element that is outside the list?

Not clear on what you are asking?
Sorry…It works, more or less, as it did before.
What you can’t do is bring a Blocs 5 TAP to Blocs 6 (as far as I can tell).
You have to rebuild it in B6.

Rich the Weather Guy

With Tab Anything you can control the bric with any external element that is not part of the list. For example if you have an image outside the list you can trigger any tab with custom atributes (tab link and tab group).
I used that for carrousels and other interactive features

Not clear if that works. I am guessing, but based on my testing, I think that should work.
Thinking about this after the fact, I am also not sure if bringing in a B5 instance of a page with a TAP bric active can be edited once you reload the bric?
I may have to give that a go and see if it works or not.

It’s fantastic to learn that the bric still functions in Blocs 6 (even with a 95% compatibility rate).

However, it’s crucial to emphasize that it’s not advisable to initiate any new projects in 2025 using the bric, as it’s currently unsupported by the developer. Unless, of course, there’s an exceptional reason for your continued reliance on it.

Hi Nico, I always loved your website and how you used the TAB on it. Probably the best use case of the bric I have ever seen.

Thank you very much Eldar!

To control Tab anything not only with the custom bric I have used custom atributes.
You asign the group of the bric and the tab and it triggers what you want. It would be great if we can achieve something similar

You should test that in B6, see if it still functions…

I understand what you are saying Eldar, and you are probably correct, but frankly, for some of us, I think there isn’t a viable alternative that makes creating and managing tabbed content so easy.
Which means, B6 may be the end of the road for some of us.

Rich the Weather Guy

I disagree - here @Eldar showed a great video on how to make Tabs in Blocs work.

And @PeteSharp showed the drop down is possible.

I had Tab Anything, but I’ll never use it again as the developer has moved on and it’s been neglected in blocs for probably 2 years now.

The bric I’m more upset about losing is Card Designer! Now that was a bric I used on many of my projects - but as with Tab anything, it’s all possible in Blocs, and spending a bit of time making it, is rewarding.

I do not see why a bric made years ago and not supported would be the end of the road for many with Blocs 6.

Blocs 6 is without doubt is the strongest and best released version of Blocs ever.

Please don’t take this the wrong way @WeatherguyNH, your contributions are very valued, but it really is sounding like you have put some blinkers on and are refusing to see any other route.

I’ve never used TAP, so can’t comment on that, but other options have been presented and admittedly, more of a learning curve, but still lots possible… please don’t take offence, I think we’d all hate to see you leave.

100% - Rich, you are a huge member of this community, hence why videos are being made and help given.

The fact I know what you are trying to do is no easier anywhere else in an application as current, modern and easy as Blocs - you might find a plugin that has various tabbing solutions, but then run into a lots of other issues.

Mastering the TAB offerings in blocs that’s 99% been done on that download from Eldar, and tweaking for mobile and then styling gets no easier!
You have the brilliant minimalist too which will make redesigning your website in such ease.

When I’m back from my holiday I’m going to be doing just that on a clients website…and I’ll be using TABs!

Trev/Adie:

I appreciate the kind words, and I take zero offense. We are all trying to do the best we can with the tools we have.
For me, TAP was/is an essential tool. I am not a website developer like many of you folks. I have a few sites I have created that I maintain for friends and family.
However, my Weather Site is a passion for me, and as most everyone is aware, the weather changes very frequently. So I am swapping out pixs and data at least twice per day, and I need a simple workflow to accomplish this task.
I also need an easy to edit bric to present all of this data and TAP gave me that.
Certainly, Eldar’s solution is viable, but once again we are faced with classes and code, etc…NOT where I want to go and NOT why I purchased Blocs in the first place.
Sure, I might be able to create a tabbed bric but that reduction to mobile view breakpoint requires code, I think, as Pete showed us, and frankly, I am not equipped to go there.
So yes, I have been looking at other Web Creation applications for the future. Will I go there, not clear at the moment. With the discovery that TAP CAN WORK in B6, I was cautiously optimistic, but as everyone has mentioned here, if I use that bric, I may be in trouble later if some other Blocs update breaks it again.
Gotta be honest here, there is no current solution (my thinking) that gives me such ease of use and a swift workflow, like TAP did.

Same here.

Same here.

I’ve tried but with no success.

I’ll use it as long as it works. And for me it still does.
And so does the “Player (with the linimitation of posters) by Lucas”.

Probably my final post on this topic.

I have been working with Norm and it would seem that “most” of TAP is now working as it should in B6.
You MUST reload the Bric in Blocs 6, by deleting the Bric that was carried over during the upgrade.
However, I certainly have NOT tested every possible use, but so far “most” everything seems to be working once again.
The problem with preview is mostly cleaned up, though the mobile view buttons are hard to activate, FYI.
In this forum chicuelo has used TAP more extensively than I have, and in fact, he showed me how to use it as I do today (Thank you again). I would like to hear from him how TAP is working (or not) in B6?

Caution to all…No idea if some future update will break this bric once again, so be very cautious applying updates until you are sure TAP is working as expected.
Down the road perhaps “someone” will create a new bric with TAP functionality that will be maintained? (Norm are you listening?)

Rich, for me TA was always working fine (pro version). And when it struggles in mobile I hide the bric and replace with a custom designed interface using custom attributes. That was the best feature Imo, you can have total control of the visual and the interaction on each breakpoint. If TAP allows you to control the content with external buttons, links or images I thin it´s going to be the perfect replacement
